Prostate cancer symptoms usually do not appear until the disease has progressed, and many times it was diagnosed. However, there are signs of prostate cancer symptoms you should be aware of looking, especially signs and symptoms related to urination.

Urinary Symptoms of Prostate Cancer

The urethra is a small tube that runs from the bladder, allowing urine to leave the body. In men the urethra is surrounded by the prostate, a walnut-shaped gland responsible for producing sperm. As prostate cancer advances, the prostate enlarges and contricts the urethra. The result is several problems with urination.

Urinary problems are common prostate cancer symptoms, but can also indicate other non-malignant prostate problems, including BPH. Prostate cancer symptoms associated with urination are:

  • Burning or pain when urinating
  • Inability to urinate
  • Frequent night urination
  • Weak urine flow
  • Blood in the urine (either microscopic or seen by the eye, although less frequently)

Other symptoms of prostate cancer

Urinary problems in men over 40 generally increase red flag for doctors to examine the prostate gland for abnormalities. However, prostate cancer causes some other vague symptoms. Non-specific symptoms that may accompany urinary symptoms are:

  • Pelvic Pain
  • Back or hip pain
  • Weight Loss

What to do if you have the symptoms of prostate cancer

You should tell your doctor at the beginning of one of the symptoms can be experienced. The delay in waiting for signs of “go away” can affect your treatment options and prognosis.

Again, other diseases and illnesses cause symptoms similar to those of prostate cancer, especially an enlarged prostate. It is essential to your doctor to see when you start experiencing symptoms. That way you can quickly benign or malignant conditions early before treatment options can be aggressive and limited.
